Before Boarding
Take medication early
Swallow your tablets or apply your patch at least 30–60 minutes prior to departure so the medicine is active before motion triggers start.
Eat a light meal
Have a small, plain meal like toast, crackers, or oatmeal. Avoid heavy, greasy, or spicy foods, as well as high-acid items like coffee and orange juice
Get rest
Start well-rested; fatigue and lack of sleep make your brain more vulnerable to motion-induced sensory conflict
Where to Sit on a Speedboat
Stay mid-ship
Position yourself near the middle of the boat (front-to-back), where the up-and-down pitching and rolling motion is felt the least. Avoid sitting right at the bow (front) or the stern (back)
Stay outside in the open air
Sit where you can feel a steady, cooling breeze. Avoid enclosed cabins, hot interior spaces, or sitting downwind where you can smell engine exhaust fumes.
During the Ride
Look at the horizon
Keep your eyes fixed on a steady point in the distance (like the horizon or shoreline) to help your brain reconcile what your inner ears feel with what your eyes see.
Do not look at screens
Put away your phone, camera, and do not try to read or look down into bags or coolers.
Use natural remedies or acupressure
Chew on ginger candies, mints, or green apples, or wear Sea-Bands (acupressure wristbands) on your wrists.
Sip fluids
Stay hydrated with small sips of water or a cold, carbonated/fizzy drink. Avoid alcohol and heavy caffeine.
Note: Sea comfort still depends on personal condition, weather and waves.
